Spa Day At Home
Set The Mood
If you can't afford to go to a fancy, expensive spa downtown (like most of us these days), just make some simple changes around the house and have your spa days at home. I promise, you probably have everything you need already at home. It is just knowing how to set the "mood" to get the feel of being at the spa. To have a spa day at home can start with something as simple as using lavender and chamomile scents for your cleaning products, candles and air fresheners. Notice that I said cleaning products because clutter and filth is enough to stress you out in itself. You can also spray your sheets with the soothing smells of bergamot and mandarin to help relieve stress and tension.
LIGHTING
Candles! Candles! Candles! Did I say "Candles?" Candles will transform the ordinary bath into a relaxing spa. It becomes a place to get away from your hectic day and into a stress-free place of relaxation. The shimmering light will bring warmth and comfort and scented candles like lavender will add an aromatherapy experience to your setting. Fill your bathtub with some warm water and your favorite bubble bath, surround it with tea light candles, then sit back and unwind from your day. It will be so relaxing, leaving your house to go to the spa will be a thing of the past. I even go as far as putting candles around the entire house including the bedroom and the kitchen.
SOUNDS
In a perfect world you could just open up your windows and listen to the sounds of nature, but lets keep it real, we don't live in a perfect world. Turn your CD player on or create a play list on your IPod and push play. If you do want to hear the sounds of nature like a rainy night or gentle waves, Wal-Mart has some really nice and inexpensive CD's that will help create your spa day at home mood.
ATTIRE
I tell my friends all the time to invest in nice plush bath towels and a comfortable white bathrobe like the ones at the spa because it will relax you on any day, spa day or not. Again, they don't have to be expensive and they will last you a lot longer than the bundle of towels in the discount bin. You can find great name brand quality towels at stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls and ROSS or check your local paper for weekly sales. Target and Macy's are also great places to buy quality towels and bath robes.
TREATMENT
You can treat yourself to a nice face and body scrub while in the bathtub with items that can be found in your kitchen cabinet. You can mix a simple, yet effective scrub beforehand with just sugar and honey to get the job done.
OPTIONAL
Have a nice bottle of your favorite wine handy and some fresh fruit to put the icing on the cake.
